02What We Do

Three ways we take on septic work.

Whether the old bed has failed or the lot is bare, the job gets the same thing: a licensed design, a clean permit file, and an installation managed like a construction project — because that’s what it is.

Septic pairs naturally with the rest of what we build — additions and new construction, garages and outbuildings — anywhere in our Grey-Bruce service area. Browse recent projects to see the standard of site work.

01

System replacements

When a bed or tank is at the end of its life, we handle the full swap — decommissioning the old system, designing the new one, and coordinating excavation, installation, and inspection so the property is usable again fast.

02

New installations

Stand-alone installs for new builds, severances, and vacant lots. Soil testing and setbacks drive the design, so you get a system sized for the house you’re actually building — not a template.

03

Part of a larger build

Building an addition or new home with us? Septic folds into the same schedule and the same site management — one crew accountable for the whole property instead of trades pointing at each other.

Scope — the honest version

We design and install Part 8 (Ontario Building Code) systems that we build ourselves. We don’t design proprietary or engineered treatment systems, we don’t produce designs for other contractors to install, and we don’t repair failing systems — if a bed is done, we’ll tell you straight and quote the replacement.

04Built for the Site

Grey-Bruce lots don’t come easy.

Shallow soils over bedrock, high water tables near the lakes, tight cottage lots with setbacks in every direction — the system type falls out of the site, not a catalogue. That’s why assessment comes first.

01

Waterfront & lakeshore

Setbacks from the high-water mark and seasonal water tables often rule out a conventional bed. Raised and filter beds are routine for us on Georgian Bay and Lake Huron shorelines — it’s a big share of our septic work.

02

Shallow & rocky ground

Much of the Peninsula sits on thin soil over limestone. Where native soil can’t do the treating, the design brings in the right imported material and bed type instead of pretending the rock isn’t there.

03

Rural acreage

Space helps, but soil still decides. On farms and backroad properties we also solve the practical problems — access for excavation, protecting the driveway and yard, and keeping the rest of the property working while we dig.

05Licensed & Accountable

Credentials you can check, not just claim.

Septic is regulated for good reason — it’s a treatment plant buried in your yard. Here’s the paper behind our work.

07Septic FAQ

Straight answers on septic.

Q1Do you design septic systems, or just install them?+
Both — as one package. We design and install Part 8 (Ontario Building Code) systems ourselves, end to end. What we don’t do: proprietary or engineered treatment-unit designs, or design-only work for another contractor to install.
Q2Do you repair failing septic systems?+
No. We replace systems rather than patch them. If your bed is backing up or breaking out, we’ll assess it honestly — and if it’s done, you’ll get a clear replacement scope instead of a repair bill that only buys a season.
Q3Do I need a permit for a new or replacement system?+
Yes — every new or replacement sewage system in Ontario needs a permit under Part 8 of the Building Code, issued by your local approval authority. We prepare and submit the application as part of the job and handle the inspections that follow.
Q4How long does a septic project take?+
The excavation and installation itself is typically a matter of days. The full arc — site assessment, design, permit approval, install, inspection, and final grading — usually spans several weeks, driven mostly by the permit queue, weather, and site access. We give you a realistic schedule up front, not an optimistic one.
Q5What determines the size and type of system I need?+
Two things: the home’s daily design flow (mainly bedroom count, fixtures, and finished floor area) and what the site gives us — soil percolation, depth to water table or bedrock, and the area left after setbacks from wells, property lines, and the shoreline. That’s why the process starts with test pits, not a quote sheet.
Q6What drives the cost of a septic system?+
System type is the biggest lever — a conventional bed in good native soil costs meaningfully less than a raised or filter bed that needs imported sand and stone. After that: excavation access, haulage distance, decommissioning the old system, and how much restoration the yard needs. A firm number comes after the site assessment, and it holds because it’s based on real soil data.
